Main Research Activities

The advent of slurry redox flow batteries for grid storage allows utilization of active materials used in portable lithium ion batteries for large scale applications. Such a system lies in the overlap of fluid dynamics, electrochemistry, and particle suspension dynamics, making optimization a highly complex multidisciplinary challenge. The goal of this thesis is to build an in-house modeling tool based on kinetic monte carlo to capture different physical phenomena to generate an optimized redox flow battery with appropriate composition of active material and conducting carbon suspension in electrolyte. The project is built on the basis of expertise in electrochemistry from LRCS, mathematics in LAMFA and the modeling platform MeCS, UPJV, Amiens in collaboration with expertise in microfluidics from BMBI, UTC, Compiègne.
